Our team embarked on a trip to the picturesque Norwegian city of Ålesund last week, marking an important milestone in the Re-Value project partnership. Ålesund is a significant municipality in the Møre og Romsdal region, known as a cultural center with a strong presence in the maritime industry.
Within the Re-Value partnership, Ålesund aims to create a sustainable and accessible urban environment that brings not only quality of life for local residents but also climate neutrality. Specifically, this involves the area of "Sørsida," which is intended to be transformed into a sustainable urban space. Further plans include the construction of shops, cultural facilities, and apartments, as well as involving local communities in data-driven strategies with an emphasis on social sustainability and smart transportation solutions. All of this is overseen by the urban company "Sørsida Utvikling AS," established in 2019.
During our visit, we focused on the individual challenges of our partner cities, overall collaboration, building partnerships, financing, and sustainable urban development. We explored the project areas of Sørsida and the cultural harbor. The discussions and workshops provided us with valuable insights and ideas that we would like to incorporate into our plans for the revitalization of the city of Písek. We were introduced to state-of-the-art technologies such as AugmentCity Dome and energy simulations, which provide valuable knowledge in the field of urban planning. We also participated in various sessions focused on co-creating artistic missions, sharing project stories, and exploring innovative approaches to urban development. Additionally, we debated topics such as city digital twins, mobility, and nature-based solutions.
Part of the project is the concept of the "New European Bauhaus," which aims to integrate the areas of design, culture, social inclusion, and sustainability. Within this concept, we led discussions about the overall impacts of the project and strategies for inclusive decision-making. The Re-Value partnership consists of nine European waterfront cities and selected European organizations striving to demonstrate how climate neutrality and quality of life in cities can be interconnected. The project's goal is to revalue the connection between cities and their waterfronts, mitigate potential negative climate impacts, and facilitate cities' transition to climate neutrality.
